Canon Introduces 60-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-6000
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-Series of 12-ink printers for high-quality photography printing and fine art reproduction now includes a 60-inch model. The Canon PRO-6000 is for print-service providers and studios that make top-quality 60-inch prints of photographs and fine art for galleries, exhibitions, museums, and interior décor.
Like the other 12-ink models in the PRO Series, the Canon PRO-6000 provides Canon’s input-to-output photo printing support known as Crystal Fidelity. This feature allows users to obtain print quality that accurately expresses the structure, clarity, and texture of photos shot with Canon EOS DSLR cameras.
Multifunction Roll System: With the included Multifunction Roll System, users can load one roll of glossy media and one roll of matte media and seamlessly print to both rolls without manually switching rolls. The Multifunction Roll unit will intelligently switch to the correct media. The second roll can also be used as a take-up unit on long, uninterrupted print runs.
LUCIA PRO Inks: Like other models in the PRO series, the PRO-6000 uses 11 colors of LUCIA-PRO aqueous pigment ink with a clear Chroma Optimizer.
The ink colors include Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, Light Magenta, Red, Blue, Photo Black, Matte Black, Gray, and Light Gray. This LUCIA ink set provides a broader color gamut and greater expression in darker areas of an image.
The Optimizer improves the evenness of the luster and reduces surface irregularities when printing on gloss and semi-gloss photo papers. This enables prints to be produced in the original captured colors, tightens up the black areas, and reduces bronzing.
The printer comes with 330 ml starter ink tanks. You can order larger (700 ml) or smaller (160 ml) ink tanks depending on which colors you use most often in your color and black-and-white photography. A combination of different tank sizes can be loaded on the printer simultaneously.
Consistent Color: An onboard sensor calibrates the printer, helping to ensure color consistency from the first print to the last and across multiple PRO-series printers.
Rigid Frame: The high-precision mechanical platform and uniform, rigid frame reduce vibrations during printing and support more accurate ink ejection during printing.
Easy Media Loading: The uncomplicated media-loading process minimizes the risk of unsightly fingerprints on the print from media handling during loading.
Software: The printer includes Print Studio Pro, a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom, and Canon Digital Photo Professional software. The Accounting Manager utility helps photographers track how much ink and media is used to print each image. The Device Manager Console enables users to manage up to 50 imagePROGRAF PRO Series printers from one location.
“I prefer Canon large-format printers because of their amazing quality as well as their outstanding reliability,” said Cody Ranaldo, technical director for Griffin Editions NYC, a full-service fine art photographic printing, imaging, and mounting studio. “With the new PRO-6000 printer, the singular printhead further improve the quality of nozzle alignment for cleaner, sharper images. I can launch an entire roll’s worth of prints and be confident I won’t find banding halfway through the batch. This is a huge advantage over the competition.”
Ranaldo also likes the printer’s dual-roll media loading system. It greatly reduces handling damage that can occur when switching back and forth between different types of media rolls.
Eric Luden, founder of Digital Silver Imaging in Belmont, Massachusetts, says “One of our best clients has been waiting to offer her work in 60 x 60 inches and is excited to now be able to offer fine art prints to a new client base. Commercial clients are especially excited to see the larger-scale prints for their lobbies and conference rooms. Our new Canon PRO-6000, which includes all the improvements we’ve come to enjoy in our Canon PRO-4000, will open up new opportunities and markets for our business.”
The imagePROGRAF PRO-6000 is expected to be available in August, 2017 with an manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $11,995.
Other Printers in the PRO Series

The PRO-2000S, 4000S, and PRO-6000S use 8 colors of LUCIA PRO ink for efficient, higher volume printing of retail graphics, concept and imposition proofs, and point-of-purchase signage.
