Sihl Earns Sustainable Business Recognition from SGIA
As a long-time supplier of Sihl inkjet media for wide-format inkjet printing, Freedom Paper is happy to report Sihl has received a national award related to the environmental impact of their operations.
SGIA’s Sustainable Business Recognition program encourages SGIA member companies to create and adopt sustainable business practices and to set an example for other companies to follow. The program recognizes member companies that have implemented projects that have improved employee safety and health, reduced environmental impact, and improved business efficiency.
“Sustainability is about more than the environment,” said Marci Kinter, SGIA’s Vice President, Government and Business Information. “It’s about business efficiencies, reducing waste, and conserving resources.”
Sihl products are manufactured at two coating plants in Duren, Germany and Bern, Switzerland. The Sihl U.S. operation in Fiskeville, Rhode Island imports large master rolls from Duren and Bern and converts them into wide-format rolls and cut sheets for shipping to customers in North America and Latin America.
The Sihl U.S. facility was honored for a process of recycling off-spec material. After identifying a recycling facility that could handle the unwanted material, Sihl employees came up with a process for collecting the rolls in a way that minimized their footprint — both in the facility and in the trailer that hauled them away. The unwanted rolls were collected using repurposed skids that were no longer fit for normal use.
“The team at Sihl Inc. is very appreciative of the recognition that they have received,” said Steve Conlon, VP of Operations. “They also understand that the preservation of the environment isn’t about awards, it’s about the commitment to a fundamental belief.”
Freedom Paper recently added more than 30 of Sihl’s newest products to our website, including products for HP Latex inkjet printers and HP PageWide XL printers.
