Canon Unveils Entry-Level Wide-Format Printer

If you want the convenience of printing extra-large documents in the comfort of your office, check out this new entry-level wide-format printer from Canon. The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF670E is a 24-inch tabletop version of Canon’s iPF670 printer for technical drawings. With a manufacturer’s suggested list price of $995, the compactly designed iPF670E is designed for use on a counter, table, or desk instead of a printer stand.

The imagePROGRAF iPF670E uses five colors of aqueous dye and pigment inks for efficient, low-cost printing of low volumes of CAD drawings, GIS maps, posters, charts, and other larger-size business documents.

“With the introduction of the entry-level counterpart to the iPF670, we are excited to offer a competitive solution for budget-minded customers interested in adding wide-format printing capabilities to their offices,” said Toyotsugu Kuwamura, executive vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Ink Tanks and Colors

The Canon iPF670E uses a six-channel printhead to deliver 5 colors of inks.

Four ink channels supply highly colorfast dye inks (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) for bold, expressive colors on poster papers and gloss photo media.

Two ink channels supply pigment matte black ink (MBK) for printing precise lines, smooth curves and small text on the plain bond papers used for everyday office documents and technical drawings.

Canon’s unique inkset helps minimize the risk of “bleeding” between printed colors and text. Even small text printed on colored backgrounds or on uncoated technical papers is crisp and legible on an imagePROGRAF printer.

Unlike competitive new printers that arrive with only about 100 ml of ink to  get started, the Canon iPF670E comes equipped with six 90 ml ink tanks — for a total of 540 ml of ink. The 90 ml ink tanks support lower overall ink costs and allow you to use the printer for a longer time before you need to replace the tanks.

With the printer’s hot-swap ink tanks, you can replace an empty ink tank in the middle of the print job without ruining the print.

The non-firing nozzle detection and compensation feature ensures that print quality won’t be affected by a clogged nozzle in the printhead. In the event that a nozzle clog occurs, the iPF670E automatically compensates for the blockage by taking advantage of another available nozzle. The printhead has more than 15,000 nozzles.

Types of Media Supported

The imagePROGRAF iPF670E runs faster than competitive printers and can hold bigger rolls of media. Inkjet media rolls up to 5.9 inches in diameter can be loaded onto the iPF670E, including 300-ft. rolls of 20 lb. and 24 lb. bond papers.

Other media types that can be printed on the iPF670E include coated bond papers, double matte film, satin and gloss photo papers, polypropylene banner material, and adhesive matte vinyl.

Software

Several useful software programs can be downloaded free for use with the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF670E.

Accounting Manager: Keep track of ink and media costs per job and use the data for billing purposes.

PosterArtist Lite: Create posters with ease, even if your workgroup doesn’t include a graphic designer. PosterArtist Lite includes royalty-free photos, backgrounds and clip art, and pre-designed templates for posters that will be used in presentations, at trade shows, and as temporary indoor signs.

Print Plug-in for Microsoft Office: Make poster-size enlargements of 8 x 11,5-inch Word documents, Excel charts, or PowerPoint slides.

Direct Print & Share: To easily print large-format documents, simply drag and drop the file you want to print into a hot folder. The job will use pre-loaded settings to start printing your files automatically. You can set up multiple hot folders for the types of jobs you will print routinely.

Options

Optional accessories include a printer stand and a roll-holder set for holding media rolls with 3-inch cores. A full version of Poster Artist software is also available.
