Natural Digital Art Papers From Hahnemuhle Are Made With Hemp, Agave, and Bamboo Fibers
Hahnemuhle has added a Natural Line to its collection of Digital Fine Art papers. All products in the Natural Line are made with environmentally friendly materials.
The three products in the Natural Line are made with cellulose from three fast-growing plants: hemp, agave, and bamboo fibers. These three plants can produce more cellulose per acre of cropland than raw materials such as cotton and wood. Because these three plants require low maintenance, minimal water, and no pesticides, they help conserve valuable resources and protect the environment.
Their rapid growth means that more cellulose can be produced on the same area of cropland than other raw materials for papermaking.
Hahnemuhle’s Natural Line of inkjet fine art papers are manufactured in compliance with ISO 9706 standards for museum-quality and high age resistance. The papers are acid-free and lignin-free and made without optical brighteners. The matte premium ink-receptive coating ensures that colors and details are brilliantly reproduced with deep blacks and striking contrasts.
The three papers in the Natural line-up include two new papers and a rebranded product. They are all compatible with aqueous pigment and dye inks and available in four sheet sizes from 8.5 x 11 inches to 17 x 22 inches and five roll widths from 17 to 50 inches.
Hahnemuhle Hemp 290 gsm
This lightly textured matte inkjet fine-art paper made from 60% hemp and 40% cotton. The bright white natural tone of the paper comes from the hemp fiber instead of optical brightening agents (OBAs). The surface texture gives this versatile art paper a pleasant, silky feel.
Because of its extremely robust fibers, hemp was an essential part of paper production for centuries. Papers made with hemp have been used in long-lasting documents, such as the Gutenberg Bible and the U.S. Declaration of Independence.
Hahnemuhle Agave 290 gsm
This textured matte inkjet art paper is made from 70% agave fiber and 30% cotton. It has a bright-white OBA-free natural white tone and rough but delicately defined surface texture. The agave fiber comes from the sisal variety of agave plants, which will grow almost anywhere.
Hahnemuhle Bamboo 290 gsm
Formerly part of Hahnemuhle’s “Smooth Collection” of fine art papers, Hahmeuhle Bamboo was the world’s first fine-art inkjet paper made from 90% bamboo fibers. This environmentally friendly paper features a warm-toned natural white and a soft, lightly textured structure and sensual feel. It is a popular choice for monochrome prints and art with warm hues. The combination of sustainable bamboo fibers, soft surface textures, and impressive print quality gives art prints a distinctive expression and soul.
A combination of clean water, natural fibers, paper making expertise, and a commitment to quality have formed the foundation of Hahnemühle’s success for more than 435 years.
“Sustainability plays a key role at our production site. Hahnemühle is located at the edge of a nature reserve, which heightens our dedication to environmentally friendly paper production and focus on utilizing local resources (water, fibers, and energy) sparingly and responsibly,” said Sven Heeren, general manager, Hahnemuhle USA. “Our proximity to the natural world provides a daily reminder of what we need to protect. For Hahnemühle, this is both an obligation and an incentive.”
