The imagePROGRAF GP-Series printers use orange and gray inks to produce a wider range of colors in ad graphics and fine details in photographic images.

The main difference between the GP-6600S and the GP-4600S models (besides width) is the muti-functional roll unit that hold two rolls of materials or serve as a take-up roll for longer runs of prints. The multi-functional roll unit is included with the GP-6600S and optional on the GP-4600S.

What Ink Colors Do the Canon GP-6600S and GP4600S Use?

The seven colors include new formulations of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, and Grey inks plus the Matte Black and Orange inks used on Canon’s GP-4000 and 2000 printers.

These newest imagePROGRAF GP models feature 7 colors of Canon’s LUCIA Pro II inks and a clear Chroma Optimizer. This ink set on the GP-6600S and GP-4600S produces a wider color gamut that is particular evident in the darker areas of the images.

The expanded color gamut is also useful in hitting more brand colors. The addition of the orange inks helps the printers to achieve 96% of the 2,390 spot colors in the PANTONE™ FORMULA GUIDE Solid Coated that designers use to specify brand and decor colors.

The Chroma Optimizer (CO) in the eighth ink channel is a clear fluid that creates a smoother, more uniform surface. It is particularly useful when Canon pigment inks are applied to semi-glossy or glossy photo papers because the CO diffuses light reflection to ensure consistent glossiness.

Other advances include:

  • A newly developed ink-sensing system that periodically monitors how ink droplets are ejected from the printhead. If the system detects variances in ejecting conditions, it will automatically adjust the alignment.

  • An improved media-handling system that more quickly detects the paper type and width and estimates the remaining amount of paper. It also automates the feeding process to help ensure stable operations, even in the absence of experienced personnel.
  • Reduced ink consumption compared to previous models. Total running costs are also lower, thanks in part to the availability of 700 ml ink tanks.
  • LED interior lights and semi-translucent ink tank covers allow users to monitor ink tank status at a glance.

  • A faster L-COA II data processor results in faster print speeds.
